Does Inclusivity Improve Staff Retention?

July 6, 2022

As Pride Month draws to a close, we looked at the importance of inclusivity within the workplace.

We began with asking members of PRG James Rousell, Isabelle Hatton, Katie Martin, Shivani Patel, Stella Webster, Jonny Norman and Josh Jennings, to talk about the importance of inclusivity, equal opportunity and positive culture within the workplace. Here’s what they had to say…

From here, we looked at a new survey conducted by LinkedIn and YouGov discovered that ‘65%’ of 2,000 LGBTQ+ workers ‘would leave their current job if they felt they could not be honest about their sexual orientation’ and a further study by Stonewall found that ‘More than a third of LGBT staff (35%) have hidden that they are LGBT at work for fear of discrimination.’ These statistics indicate that LGBTQ+ rights play a crucial role in creating a space of belonging for employees.

At PRG we are always looking to create an inclusive and safe environment. So, we asked you, ‘Do you think an inclusive environment is ‘make or break’ for staff retention?’.

The votes rolled in, and out of just under 30 votes, 79% of people voted Yes and 21% voted No. Conclusively, the result was a resounding Yes! With this in mind, we considered how businesses can improve retention through inclusion.

Further studies by Nathalie Halcrow for Culture Wizard suggested that cultivating peer support, training supervisors to understand inclusion, and examining whether company policies serve diverse employees are pivotal to improving retention through inclusivity. As a product of this research, we listed our key thoughts:

  1. Nurture peer support. Respect and support created in an inclusive environment will help members of employees contribute to the workplace, and furthermore will allow them to express themselves authentically. It is important to recognise when diversity has not been embraced in certain situations, to educate rather than create conflict.
  2. Consider whether company policies serve diverse employees.  The support of peers and supervisors is valuable in day-to-day life, but on a broader scale, organisations should consider whether their policies make an inclusive work environment possible. You might ask : ‘Does your organisation have a zero-tolerance policy on harassment?’
  3. Train senior members of staff to understand and model inclusion. Supervisors play a key role in determining how a situation was handled and how it ultimately affects an employee; responsibility for discrimination should not be deferred. The more inclusive approach is to have an open conversation about the needs and expectations of the employee. In this way, if practiced successfully, inclusion increases people’s sense of motivation, engagement, productivity, and innovation.

An inclusive environment correlates strongly to employee retention. Therefore, support of diversity should be of high importance within environments inside and outside the workplace. There is no reason employees should discriminate against diverse colleagues. You don’t have to understand someone’s sexuality or gender orientation, but it is vital you support and honour their position. As Halcrow comments ‘Practiced successfully, inclusion increases people’s senses of motivation and engagement. In turn, this increases productivity, and ultimately allows organizations to capitalize on the creativity and innovation that diverse teams bring to the table.’

At PRG, we are proud to be an inclusive employer and of our working environment that allows everyone to be their authentic selves. If you’d like to be part of this, please get in touch today!

PRG’s Lead Delivery Consultant Francis Macaulay continues:

‘I’m really proud of PRG for supporting this programme. It’s one of the many steps we’ve taken to improve on diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

This is aimed at Black representation in recruitment, and its about removing those barriers at entry, so people in our community feel that they can build a career.’

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition

March 3, 2022

This week, Precision Resource Group (PRG) held an event for our valued clients and candidates at M Shed, Bristol, to celebrate our sponsorship of the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.

Open until the 5th of June 2022, the event returned with a new set of breath-taking images.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition launched in 1965 with 361 entries, and today it attracts 49,000 entries globally. These images have been selected by an international panel and winning images have been credited on their creativity, technical excellence, and originality.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the most respected exhibition in its field, and we are thrilled to be involved. Our sponsorship is an opportunity to support Bristol’s art and culture and the extraordinary displays of nature.

PRG’s Managing Director, Neil Willis-Stovold, welcomed our guests to the evening and then passed over to Ray Barnett, Head of Collections & Archives at Bristol Museums, who gave us an insight into the background of the exhibition and the images. We enjoyed the evening with a selection of canapes and drinks, whilst appreciating the fantastic images at our own leisure, and what a selection to be showcased!

The evening was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with our clients and candidates, view the spectacular photographs, and to support a much-acclaimed part of Bristol’s culture.

Precision Resource Group are Sponsors of World Land Trust

March 3, 2022

Precision Resource Group are delighted to announce that World Land Trust have become one of our chosen charities!

Every year, PRG run several fundraising events to support our existing charities, Changes Bristol, Jessie May and Young Lives vs Cancer, and we’re thrilled to welcome World Land Trust to join them!

World Land Trust pioneered the Buy an Acre concept of buying land for conservation, starting in 1989, and has, since then, funded ground-breaking habitat protection for more than 30 years.

World Land Trust, and its overseas project partners, have been instrumental in the purchase and protection of more than 2,222,247 acres of tropical forest and other threatened habitats, and together ensure that more than four million acres of land is managed under active protection worldwide.

We cannot wait to see the input of our employees, our contribution throughout the year, and the difference we can make to this brilliant cause.

As proud sponsors of these brilliant charities, this year we have made it our mission to encourage one another to take time out of the office to help raise funds for these incredible organisations and make a difference in our community.

To help with this, all our employees are entitled to an extra day off, or as we call it, ‘Volunteer Day’. Furthermore, we have launched a Matched Giving Scheme! If our employees raise or donate money for a registered charity of their choice, PRG will match your donation up to £100.  So, keep an eye out for our fundraising events throughout 2022!

We have joined the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI)

March 3, 2021

In recognition of our commitment to our employees, candidates and clients, our parent company, Precision Resource Group (PRG), has joined the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI).

The ENEI is a not for profit, and the leading employer network (with over 300 members) promoting equality and inclusion in the workplace. The ENEI’s role is to influence government, assist business and trade unions, and campaign for real practical change.

Getting recruitment right is one of the biggest challenges for any employer, avoiding discrimination whilst embracing inclusion. In order to reach the most talented people, an organisation must have access to a wide talent pool, which means ensuring no one is overlooked for unjust reasons.

Membership allows us to promote best practice in equality and inclusion in the workplace through employer guides, policy briefings, case studies and further tools to support the needs of our candidate and client partners. It also offers an opportunity for our people to grow knowledge outside their normal job role by taking part in webinars and networking events.

ENEI’s vision is for organisations and people to prosper by valuing difference in the workplace. It aims to work in partnership with all its members to set the recognised standard for best practice to…

  • Deliver inclusive recruitment – Understanding how an inclusive workforce benefits an organisation.
  • Improve inclusive recruitment outcomes – Designing an inclusive job and person specification.
  • Recognise and develop our recruitment skills – Providing an inclusive company culture for onboarding new staff members both internally and for our clients.
  • Consult on inclusive recruitment to others – Describing their responsibilities in terms of reasonable adjustments.

Precision Resource Group Announces Second Global Expansion in Six Months

March 3, 2020

Precision Resource Group announces second global expansion in six months. iO Associates launched in Europe with new offices in Brussels and Munich.

Technology, digital and engineering staffing specialist iO Associates has this week announced its first global expansion into Europe with new offices in Brussels and Munich.

Following several client wins in the European technology and engineering staffing sectors, iO Associates says that demand is now so high that it requires dedicated offices to sustain its growth.

The firm will be focussing its initial efforts on clients in the Benelux and DACH regions with plans to quickly broaden its scope.

The Bristol head-quartered firm, part of Precision Resource Group, is launching its European arm just six months after the successful launch of its first Americas office in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Operating for only five years in the UK, iO Associates rapid expansion is underpinned by its stronghold in major growth markets. Despite challenges this year, the technology and engineering jobs markets have remained resilient in the UK and internationally.

Neil Willis-Stovold, Managing Director, comments: “It’s been a really challenging year for us at iO Associates but it’s been great to see that despite difficult economic conditions, we have still been able to sustain our business growth as planned.

“Our new Europe offices will help us to keep increasing our client base and integrate fully within our target markets. As we have seen in Florida, there is real appetite across the international staffing industry for firms like ours which have specialist sector knowledge and a network of quality global candidates.”

In the last year, iO Associates has increased its head office headcount to 70 employees. It turned over nearly £20m, up 25% on the year previous.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for iO Associates!

As seen on…
